Consider these words spoken by Jesus to us, His Church, as read from the Amplified version of the bible:
“If you [really] love Me, you will keep (obey) My commands. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever—
The Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive (welcome, take to its heart), because it does not see Him or know and recognize Him. But you know and recognize Him, for He lives with you [constantly] and will be in you.
I will not leave you as orphans [comfortless, desolate, bereaved, forlorn, helpless]; I will come [back] to you.” – Joh 14:15-18
These are such powerful words expressing the love and concern from our Savior before He went to sit at the right hand of The Father. And He expressed them towards us, His beloved. We need to dig in and learn all that we can learn about the “Comforter,” the Holy Spirit. We must allow Him to be everything Jesus said He would be to us in these verses.
This subject is vast. However, we absolutely must take the time and fully explore the depths of what all is truly available to us as Christians by the way of The Holy Spirit. We can first start by embracing a desire to receive all that God has for us. A desire that will allow us to be immersed into the very being of God. This is done through receiving the gift of the Spirit as spoken in Acts 19:2:
“When He said unto them, ‘Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, we have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.’”
Believers should want to receive all that God wants us to have. The Holy Spirit draws man to Christ. And that is just for starters.
“No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.” – John 6:44
We must take the next step and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit as referenced in the above scripture. With the infilling presence of God on the inside, we give voice to His presence through our speaking in our heavenly language. By doing so, it allows Him to fulfill a great function. As we pray in tongues, He will pray the perfect will of God on our behalf,
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” – Rom 8:26-27
As we pray in tongues, the Holy Spirit prays ‘Perfect Prayers’ which causes us to walk in Perfect Peace and quietness of soul. In the ‘sweet spot’ of the Center of God’s Will, there is always Perfect Peace. The uncertainties of life will not frustrate nor frighten us. We have the blessed assurance that the Holy Spirit will comfort and be our standby as we continue on in our life’s journey.
As we continue to walk with the Lord, He will open our hearts and expand our understanding and capacity to receive more of the workings of His Spirit in us.
“Yes, let us know (recognize, be acquainted with, and understand) Him; let us be zealous to know the Lord [to appreciate, give heed to, and cherish Him]. His going forth is prepared and certain as the dawn, and He will come to us as the [heavy] rain, as the latter rain that waters the earth.” – Hos 6:3
