“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God”.- Rom 6:12-3
Have you ever had an interaction as a child and you hear one saying to the other something like…”Hey! You’re not the boss of me!!!”
This is exactly the attitude we need to have when we are faced with the temptation to go contrary to the Word of God. We need to realize that sin is knocking at our door and we need to say, “Hey! You’re not the boss of me!!! “
In those moments of temptation, we are faced with the realization that we are human, flesh and blood. However, we must also realize that the greater one, who is Christ Jesus, is in the inside of us.
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. Our spirit bears witness with God’s Spirit that we are sons of God and we are overcomers.” – 1 Jn 4:4
We who belong to Christ are under the dispensation of Grace. Grace simply put, is God’s willingness to help us through unearned or undeserved favor. However, Grace is not a license to practice sin or to continually yield to temptations.
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein.” – Rom 6:1-2
We cannot be comfortable in sin, we cannot practice sin as a lifestyle. There has to be a reckoning, an actualization, an awakening within your spirit that old things are passed away. Allow the old, dead things to stay dead. No one in their right mind would ever want to go back to the lifestyle or the sins that God has delivered them from. Listen, if it was that great you would still be a rank sinner but you have chosen to follow God.
When I think of this following verse I just shutter….
“As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.” – Pro 26:11
Dear God! This is not for us!
”Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” – Rom 6:13 -14
The word ‘yield’ means to stand beside and to allow something to happen. Spirit filled believers are mighty through God. We don’t have to yield, agree with, or give in to Satan. In those moments we must remember to call upon the Lord for help.
Sometimes crying out is just the thing we need to do. In fact, a good holler isn’t too shabby either. Cry aloud and spare not! Let your voice be heard by heaven and hell. God promises to deliver us from our enemies, even if in that moment you are your own worst enemy.
“I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.” – Psa 18:3
When temptation comes, call upon the Lord. Remember to make it a point to give God the glory for delivering you because he surely will. Take it a step further and yield yourself, allow yourself, give into the things of God. Allow God’s Goodness and Mercy to just take you over. Be filled with His Love to the point that it just spills out through your words, actions, and deeds. Give a testimony of how you overcame as you make it a lifestyle of yielding to the good news of the gospel every time you heard a message preached. Just yield to it, agree with that word. You will find that over time those former temptations won’t even come your way.
When the devil even thinks of your name, let him remember how loud you can call upon the name of God. Let him remember your crazy praise! Continue to give God the Glory! Press in to be one of those who sings the songs of Zion of how you overcame by the Blood of the Lamb and your testimony.
May God’s Grace Abundantly Reign In Your Life!
