During the holidays I was given a recipe on how to cook a very expensive roast which promised to come out perfectly and also produce a deliciously seasoned gravy. I quickly glanced it over, and in my mind, I felt I had it down pat. After all, I had cooked this before and felt I knew what I was doing.
A family member came along to check on me. With egg on my face, it was pointed out to me that I was going about it incorrectly. In fact, I had totally botched the entire thing! How did this happen? Easy! I never took the time to carefully read and follow the instructions. I tried to salvage the dish and in the end it was palatable but in my heart of hearts, I knew that if I had actually followed the instructions it would have been a very savory dish. Instead, it becamse something that everyone had to politely accept. Did I learn a lesson? I sure did! The next time I attempt to try something new, I will “count the cost”. I will take my time and to do it the right way!
Our Christian walk is the same way. God is very concerned about our spiritual growth and has given us clear instructions on how to build a strong spiritual house. Accepting Jesus as our savior is the first foundational stone laid in the kingdom of God.
“Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone (Jesus), a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.” – Isa 28:16
“For (no) other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” – 1 Co 3:11 – 16
The instructions for adding on to the foundation of Jesus Christ have been given clearly. We are to use building materials that are made of gold, silver and precious stones. These are godly, righteous, and nonperishable items. Let’s look at it this way. When we walk through life and rely totally on the Word of God and follow the instructions given, we add daily, onto the foundation of Jesus that has been laid in our lives.
Situations will arise in life that bring us to the point of choosing. Will we respond according to the Word which are the true and solid doctrinal teaching we have received or will we react according to our flesh, secular teaching, and or tradition? When we respond to God’s instructions, which have been given in His Word, we are in essence, adding on another layer of righteous building stones. Over time, our inner walls will stand tall and tower over every work and plan of the enemy.
As we consistently respond and yield to the Will, the Word, and the Spirit of God, it will create within us a strong spiritual house. Each time we respond accordingly, our spiritual walls become more fortified. When opposition and the winds of adversity come our way, which is the way of the world, we will be able to stand and not crumble.
An example of golden building material, can be considered a “Golden Nugget.” Golden Nuggets are truths that you have dug out of the Word of God. Consider this in Mat 18:18
“Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
Once you learned the spiritual concept of ‘Binding and Loosing’ it becomes a part of your spiritual arsenal. If you are like me, I use this Golden Nugget on a regular basis to combat the enemy.
How about this next little precious stone? It says in Mat 18:19:
“Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.”
What a gem! Learning to ‘Touch and Agree’ in faith is a powerful tool available for the children of God. This is a promise from the throne room of God!
These are non-perishable, righteous building materials that will never fail. They will stand for all eternity, and will not burn in the fires of adversity.
Now, let’s look at the building materials that will never stand or bear up under pressure but rather, they will quickly burn and be blown in the wind. They are wood, hay, and stubble. Simply stated these are man-made contrivances. These are groundless ceremonies, doctrines of devils, fables, endless genealogies, vain and idle notions, secular viewpoints, and often times legislated laws and erroneous teachings.
Again, when you are faced with following the way of God when you are making a decision, take that opportunity to use righteous materials. No matter how much pressure you may be facing, or how dire the situation is, remember to always ‘DO’ the Word. In that moment you are adding on to the foundation that has been laid. Over time your spiritual temple will have strong, immovable walls that will endure any attack of the evil one. Your walls will stand. God will reward you. He has promised it!
“If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.” – 1 Co 3:14
Here is the bottom line, follow the instructions as listed in God’s Word, don’t deviate. In the end, you will produce something that is good and can be enjoyed by others. Following God’s recipe will always leave a good taste in your mouth.

An Apostolic and Prophetic View of God’s Process for Personal Growth and Ministry
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
According to the Scripture, Romans 8:28 says- “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” The questions is, how do all these things work out to our benefit? God is a “God that declares “The End” from “The Beginning”. However, we must understand that He is also a God of process. There is a process that takes from the beginning unto the end.
