Recently, I traveled with a very dear friend, who had moved away some years ago. She was now returning to our home state, and I helped her retrieve some needed items she had in storage. She was packing the items and trying to decide what she should take and what she could leave for another time. While doing this, my friend had a very large tote in which she could carry multiple items. The only problem was the tote took up way too much space in the trunk of the vehicle we were driving. It did not matter which way we tried to position it; it was too much. To further complicate things, if we took it along, we would not be able to get other needed items in the trunk for this trip.
So finally, after much labor, and trying to force the large tote into a position that would allow it to yield more space, we accidentally cracked the lid of it. My friend finally decided that we would need to ditch the tote and put its items contained in it into smaller totes and bags. This would not only allow us to carry everything that was in it, but also give us the space that we needed to carry other things. Sure enough, when she was willing to give up the large tote, we were able to carry not only the items she had in it but much more than what she had anticipated due to the new increased capacity that she now had. After we got this revelation, my friend said, “Sometimes you have to know when a season is over. I was committed to that tote and had planned everything else I could carry around it.” I asked her how long she had it, and she told me for seven years.
How many of us have experienced situations like this? Where sometimes what we are doing may not necessarily be wrong, but we find that the way we are doing it just isn’t working, and some adjustment is needed to fit today’s needs. It can be old strategies or ways of thinking that God wants to remove from us so that we can embrace the new things that He has for us now. God wants to expand our capacity to receive more of Him. Sometimes that may require us, (like my friend), to give up old ideas and ways of doing things, so that we can walk into more of what He has for us.
Old things can hinder us from becoming more fruitful in Him. We can even have old habits that lead us to the same experience over and over again when God wants to take us on an exciting journey of discovery. He wants to take us in directions where we will discover Him in a new way as He expands our revelation and teaches us to have a greater understanding of Him. Our life in Christ is not meant to be dull, stagnant, or boring. However, we can make it so when we are not aware of the seasons and refuse to let go of things or ideas that He wants to remove from us. Let us not be those who interfere with God when He wants to enlarge us in a new and refreshing way. God’s desire for us is that we grow in Him, no matter what age we are spiritually or naturally.
Hebrews 12:1-2 tells us:
“1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
A weight, in this case, can be defined as a ‘burden or mass’, something that ‘weighs one down’. When we look at the example of the runner in the natural, they usually do not carry weights on them. Why? Because it impedes their ability to run and get to the finish line as quickly as possible. In my friend’s case, the large tote she had been carrying for seven years, would have become a great burden to her had she insisted on keeping it past its season of usefulness. So, it is with us in various situations in life. When we fail to lay aside those old ideas, old distractions, or old habits, or even good strategies that may have worked for us in the past but no longer bear fruit for us, they can become weights or burdens. We must lay them aside so that we can run our race unburdened. When we are running unhindered and unburdened, we can accomplish more of God’s vision for our lives and fulfill our purpose in the earth.
Friend, do you have anything in your life that you feel God is saying that it is time to let go of and the season is over for so that you can have more capacity to receive what He has for you in this one? If so, let us pray this prayer now.
“Father, I thank you that You are the One who knows what is best for my life. If you are asking me to let go of something, please make it plain. You are the One who will fill my life with that which is best for the season I am walking in now. You are expanding my capacity to receive more of You and Your presence in my life. Lord, I set myself in agreement with your ideas, thoughts, strategies, and purposes that You have for me in this hour. I am in agreement with all of this so that Your perfect will can be accomplished in my life, in Jesus’s Name!”

An Apostolic and Prophetic View of God’s Process for Personal Growth and Ministry
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
According to the Scripture, Romans 8:28 says- “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” The questions is, how do all these things work out to our benefit? God is a “God that declares “The End” from “The Beginning”. However, we must understand that He is also a God of process. There is a process that takes from the beginning unto the end.
